Match Report

ballingarry Albion 2 cahir park 1 (aet)
we crashed out of the Tipperary cup in very disappointing fashion. in a game we should have been well capable of winning we just did not perform on the day, and we can have no gripes about the result. we knew going to ballingarry that we were going to not only have to play good football but also compete physically with our opposition, and to be honest on both counts we failed. we started alright and created a couple of decent chances, but another one of our failings this year has not being able to convert our chances and score when we are on top, and today was no different. then on the half hour mark a long clearance out of defence caught us out and ballingarry struck the first blow in this tie , from then until half-time we totally dominated the game and had two glorious chances to get back on level terms, but we just could not take any of them.

the second half was a bit of a non event , and the standard of football from both sides, even allowing for a poor surface, was very mediocre. not a lot of chances were created, and as the half wore on it looked like we would not breach their defence , but with 75 minutes gone, disaster struck for the ballingarry keeper and we were thrown a lifeline when a tame shot from Stephen burke somehow wriggled between the keepers feet and into the net. you would think after that that we would go on and win the tie , but we just could not get our game going and rarely threatened to break the deadlock.

with just two minutes of extra time gone we conceded a corner and our inability to defend set pieces all season has been well documented and once again we conceded form a corner , when their no.8 headed in from four yards out with no cahir park player in sight , we huffed and puffed for the rest of the extra time but in truth apart form one header from Shane Murphy which the keeper tipped onto the crossbar we created very little , and albion held out comfortably for a well deserve victory.
